Monrovia – Two legends, one friendship. One would become the one of the World’s best soccer players, the other a global basketball icon. They both shared a passion for sports and being number one. Driven by their work ethics and commitment, they would become the symbol of excellence. George Manneh Weah, 25th President of Liberia, and Kobe Bean Bryant, basketball ambassador and Oscar winner.
Their history with the Nike brand started their relationship, but excellence in their career after sports brought them even closer – their future looked bright. That is why, it was a surprise to many to hear that NBA champion and Olympic Gold Medalist, Bryant died in a fatal helicopter crash in California. Leaving behind a wife and three daughters. As the global community mourns, the investigation is ongoing into the crash that killed Bryant, 41, and Gianna, his 13-year-old daughter, along with seven others.
President Weah posted on his social media Sunday “This is not only a sad day for them, but for the entire sports world, as we are all devasted by this tragedy.”
Weah continued saying,“This is a poignant moment for all of us sports enthusiast, as the world has lost a great soul whose legacy will live on and serve as an inspiration for generations to come. The death of Kobe has left an indelible mark in our hearts, and he will truly be missed.”
