WILLARD RUSSELL DIES: LIBERIA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION FORMER PRESIDENT

Liberia Football Association (LFA) is bereaved over the death of Mr. Willard Russell, former president of the LFA. He passed in the United States of America, on Friday, February 15, 2020.

In 1996, during the late Mr. Russel tenured as the president of LFA, he was responsible for the Liberia men’s national soccer team qualifying for its first Africa Cup of Nations Finals, held in South Africa.

A sad day for football in Liberia. The current President of the LFA, Mr. Mustapha Raj, overwhelmed with grief said, ” We, the football fraternity are stricken by a great lost of a very great and hard working man. You diligently played your part including guiding our country to its first Nations Cup appearance. On behalf of the LFA I extend our sincere condolences to the family.” The Vice President of the LFA, Mr. Sekou Konneh, also added “my deepest condolence to you my brother Jeremy and the entire Russell family.”
